Allen VFD

That’s right the name is Allen Volunteer Fire Department - often confused with the school A.T. Allen.  Back in January 1959 members of the community met and selected this name as well as its Board of Directors which consisted of:
  • President Guy Faggart
  • Vice President Oscar Blackwelder
  • Secretary Ray Blackwelder
  • Treasurer Nelson Bost
  • Directors Grover Faggart, M.L. Brown, Paul  Tucker, Hugh Biggers and Paul D. Campbell

Initially the department was funded by numerous community activities such as womanless weddings, barbecue sales, chicken noodle suppers, hot dog and hamburger sales and square dances. These were discontinued in 1974 when the fire department petition the residents of the community to levy a fire tax.

In mid-November 1987 the fire department adopted a First Responder Program. This provides basic life support and rescue services until the arrival of county ambulances. The members also have specialty training in many different areas.

While having numerous trucks through the years the current district is served by 3 pumpers/tankers, 1 brush truck, 1 rescue truck, 1 squad truck, and 1 inflatable raft. The department currently has 23 volunteer firefighters, 15 EMT/medical responders and answers approximately 600 calls annually.

The current Board of Directors consistent of:

  • President Mike Faggart
  • Vice President Bud Cruse
  • Secretary/Treasurer Jennifer Dozier
  • Directors Buck Green, Tom Joyner, Scott Williams, Eric Hartsell and Tim Smith

The current fire department officers are:

  • Chief Ed Phillips
  • Asst. Chief Randy Dozier
  • Capt. Matt Pethel
  • Capt. Bill Abernathy
  • Lt. Jimmy Morgan
  • Lt. Jerry Helms,
  • afety Officer Eric Hartsell
  • Traffic Control Officers Mike Faggart and Monty Green
We still make house calls and are looking for a few good men and women.  BE SAFE!!!
