Kannapolis Fire Department (KFD) proudly protects 39,000 people living in an area of 32 square miles. KFD has 54 full-time positions and approximately 40 volunteers. Forty-eight full-time fire suppression personnel work 24/48 shifts from four fire stations. The remainder of the full-time staff consists of the Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, Executive Office Assistant, Training Division Chief, and two Fire Inspectors. Fire equipment operated by the KFD includes 9 engines, two brush trucks, two equipment trucks and one ladder truck.

In the FY 2005 budget, six firefighters were added to the full-time staff. The addition of these full-time personnel, along with the department’s very dedicated and capable volunteers, will continue to enhance the KFD’s ability to respond to emergencies. The KFD has a Fire Protection Classification (formerly referred to as ISO rating) of Class 4.
