Midland
Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Inc. provides fire
protection, rescue and first responder services for the
citizens of southern Cabarrus County and the Town of
Midland. Citizens in the Midland Fire District pay a
fire tax of .055 per one one hundred dollars of assessed
property value for fire protection. This is assessed and
collected by Cabarrus County. Citizens inside the Town
Limits of Midland have no fire tax assessed, but through
a contract with the Town of Midland financial
consideration is provided to the fire department.
Midland
Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Inc. currently operates out
of Fire Station One built in 1978 at 12805 US Hwy 601
South. Land for a second fire station located at 369 Hwy
24-27 was purchased in May of 2006. Construction is
scheduled to begin in July of 2007 with completion in
December 2007. It will be known as Midland Fire Station
Two and will assist in providing fire protection to the
western corridor of Hwy 24-27.
Midland Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Inc. has a class 6/9
insurance rating, issued by the North Carolina
Department of Insurance, Office of State Fire Marshal.
Midland Fire Department provides a wide range of
services including but not limited to fire protection,
emergency medical first responder services and rescue.
The North Carolina Association of Rescue and Emergency
Medical Services recognizes Midland Volunteer Fire and
Rescue as a provider of Medium Rescue, Ambulance EMS,
and Water Rescue consisting of Swift Water, Open Water,
Dive Rescue and Ice Rescue.

Midland Volunteer Fire and Rescue’s
Water Rescue Team is contracted with Cabarrus County to
provide water rescue for Cabarrus County and is a Water
Rescue Strike Team for North Carolina. The team was
started and is operated under the Midland Volunteer Fire
and Rescue Department. Due to the need and growth of the
team, the following departments have signed a mutual aid
agreement and currently work as part of the Midland
Water Rescue Team:

In May of 1998 and in May of 2004
the Midland Water Rescue Team was awarded the
International Higgins and Langley Memorial Award for
Excellence in Swift Water Rescue. The Midland Water
Rescue Team has been on several deployment throughout
North Carolina.
