 In the northern part of Cabarrus County the citizens
of this great county are served by the Rimer Volunteer
Fire Department. Rimer VFD was chartered March 12, 1959.
The first Board of Director members were President
Warren Manus, Vice President Hoyle Allison, Secretary
Sylvia Loggans, Treasurer C.C. Rimer, and Directors
Uyless Loggans, Richard Manus, George Pless Sr., Cecil
Cline, Willis Bonds.The first Fire Truck was a 1952
Ford Truck purchased from the State Civil Defense for
$150. This truck was converted into the departments
first water wagon.
The first Officers of Rimer VFD were Chief Everette
Stoner, Assistant Chief Don Yost, Captians Sam Wise,
Frank Sifford, Albert West, and Tommy Menus, Lieutenants
Norman Goodman, Bill Moss, Jesse Scott, and Fred
Barnhardt.
Rimer is famous for their chicken noodle suppers. We
also held fund raisings such as hot dog/hamburger
suppers, square dances, ice cream socials, white
elephant sales, and car washes. These were handled by a
very active Women’s Auxiliary. These fund raisers
contributed much of the funds to pay the departments
debts. Dues were also collected. The first officers of
the Women’s Auxiliary were President Mary Sifford, Vice
President Joyce Scott, Secretary Helen Faggart,
Treasurer Bulah Kluttuz, Chaplin Marie Stoner, and
Shelby Manus was the chairman of the Ways and Means
committee.
 From 1 truck in 1959, the Rimer VFD now has 6
vehicles which consist of 2 Engines, 2 Tankers, 1 Brush
Truck, and 1 First Responder vehicle. The department is
now served by 36 personnel that consist of 26 Volunteers
and 10 part-time personnel of which 17 are First
Responders. Rimer VFD established its First Responder
program in 1992.
The Rimer Volunteer Fire Department currently serves
about 37 square miles and responds to an average of 195
calls annually.
